Sisan Lee (born 1995) is a designer and artist based in Seoul. He majored in spatial design and primarily works in interior design, furniture, and sculpture. While studying at a university surrounded by mountains and rivers, he developed a deep interest in nature and became fascinated by the unique qualities of stones, which stand in stark contrast to artifacts produced through standardized processes. Lee explores the intersection of nature and artificiality, as well as the tension between primitivity and modernity, integrating these contrasts into his work. Over the years, he has gathered raw materials—stones, wood, and metals—from both natural and urban environments. By carefully assessing the physical properties of these materials and using them in their natural state, he preserves their purity without compromising their inherent characteristics. The outcomes of his process are uniquely individual, setting them apart from objects created through conventional industrial design methods.

GUCCI ‘Bamboo Encounters’

2025

During Fuorisalone 2025, Gucci unveils Bamboo Encounters, a design-forward exhibition held within the historic Chiostri di San Simpliciano in central Milan. Curated and designed by interdisciplinary agency 2050+ and its founder, a former member of OMA, Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, the show revisits one of the house’s most iconic codes—bamboo—through the lens of seven international artists, architects, and studios. Set in a 16th-century cloister, the project unfolds through a series of installations and a four-part public program exploring the themes of imaginaries, materials, crafts, and narratives. On view till April 13th, visitors encounter bamboo as a living material with cultural, ecological, and emotional resonance. Participating creatives include Nathalie Du Pasquier, Anton Alvarez, Dima Srouji, Kite Club (Liesbeth Abbenes, Maurice Scheltens, Bertjan Pot), Laurids Gallée, Sisan Lee, and the back studio (Eugenio Rossi and Yaazd Contractor), each offering a distinctive take on the potential of bamboo.
