Sisan Lee (b. 1995) explores the sculptural possibilities that emerge at the intersection of different times and environments. Drawing on experiences shaped between urban and rural landscapes, as well as the structural thinking developed through spatial design, his work investigates how modernity and primitivism, nature and industry, continuity and change can coexist within a single form. This exploration extends across furniture, objects, and spatial works.

〈Neo-Primitive〉 series carries forms shaped by nature into new material conditions. It began with the collection of apple tree branches left after pruning in the orchard tended by the artist’s grandmother, and has since expanded to include various trees that bear traces of time and environment. Through casting, the trees are transferred into other materials while retaining their form and surface characteristics, and the curvature and branching structures formed through growth are used as components of furniture and sculpture. At this point, the organic texture of the wood overlaps with the cold materiality of metal, creating a dual sensibility in which nature and artifice are perceived at once.
